Help Our Orchestra

Empower the Community Through Music

Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra is comprised of over 100 volunteer musicians representative of the diversity of our beloved community and the variety of musical experiences so welcome in Harford County, Maryland. We enrich lives through a broad range of music programming, including several live concerts every year, and also help low-income students obtain music lessons and instruments.

In addition to our concerts, here are a few initiatives we are
most proud of:

  • Annually, we invite members of two youth orchestras to perform “side by side” with adult musicians at our final concert of the season showcasing the incredible talent of our young performers. Playing with adults builds their confidence and encourages practicing music throughout their lives. Our audiences say this is one of their most beloved annual concerts.
  • Local Fine Arts students at Harford Community College (HCC) and at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), who participate in SSO rehearsals and performances, may be eligible for earned college credit.
  • SSO members provide support to Harford County’s “Band Together”, a nonprofit that collects and refurbishes used instruments and gives them to students who cannot afford to purchase their own. Over 300 instruments now have homes with children in 4th-12th grades, promoting diversity in the arts. Our studies proved when students are involved in music-making, their grades and performance in all other school subjects improved and overall confidence increased.
  • The SSO has presented concerts to benefit other nonprofits such as the Judith L. Famous Music Fund. Scholarships awarded to area students offset the costs for music classes, summer camps, and instruments. The Fund has donated over $10,000 to students in Harford County, MD.

Now, we’re looking to our history of community support to graciously ask for yours.

In the past, we’ve been proudly awarded a grant that made it possible to run our programs and concerts. Unfortunately, the grant for 2017 was reduced.

Now we seek to make up the difference to our operating budget. Monetary contributions of any amount are welcome! As a 501c3, your donations are tax deductible. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
