Judi Famous, principal oboist with the SSO for over 25 years, was a music educator and professional who worked in the Harford County Public School system for thirty years. Following her passing after a battle with cancer in 2005, a committee of members from Emory United Methodist Church in Street, Maryland was formed to carry out one of her final wishes – the establishment of a fund for music students in need of financial aid. The stipend received by the recipient could be used to defray the costs of private music lessons, or put toward an instrument rental or purchase, or used toward summer camp tuition.
